Model Overview

The JAECOO J6 is the first pure electric SUV under Chery's JAECOO brand, positioned as a compact all-electric off-road SUV. Entering official production in 2024, it is one of the JAECOO brand's pioneer dedicated EV models, marking Chery's accelerated expansion in the electrified export market. Dimension-wise, it measures 4406×1910×1715mm in length, width, and height, with a wheelbase of 2715mm. The vehicle adopts a 5-seater layout and has a kerb weight of approximately 1874kg. For overseas markets, the JAECOO J6 is available in two powertrain options: RWD and dual-motor AWD, taking on compact SUV rivals such as the Toyota Corolla Cross.

Design Language

The JAECOO J6 features a rugged "box-shaped" styling with an upright, boxy profile. Up front, it sports matrix LED headlights, sharp LED daytime running lights, and an illuminated JAECOO emblem. The side profile is defined by clean, straight character lines, complemented by flush door handles and 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. The rear styling is instantly recognisable with its Jeep-style side-opening tailgate and a spare-tyre-inspired external storage box (dubbed the "backpack"), ideal for stowing charging cables and outdoor gear. Exterior colour choices include Khaki White, Carbon Crystal Black, and Moonlight Silver. Ground clearance stands at 195mm, easily handling both urban roads and light off-roading.

Inside, the cabin continues the rugged off-road theme paired with a minimalist high-tech design. It is equipped with a 9.2-inch full digital instrument cluster and a 15.6-inch floating central touchscreen. Metallic air-vent trims and crystal rotary dials create a striking blend of retro aesthetics and modern digital tech. Leather-wrapped upholstery throughout further enhances the premium cabin feel.

Powertrain & Performance

The JAECOO J6 is offered in two powertrain configurations:

• RWD Variant: Powered by a rear-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor delivering 135kW (184 PS) and 220Nm of peak torque. Paired with a 65.69kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack. WLTP-rated range is 371km.

• AWD Variant: Equipped with dual electric motors producing a combined system output of 205kW (279 PS) and 385Nm of torque. It packs a 69.77kWh LFP battery pack. The 0-100km/h century sprint is completed in 6.5 seconds. WLTP combined range is rated at 342-364km, while the WLTP city cycle range reaches approximately 470km.

For charging, the J6 supports 80kW DC fast charging, taking about 30 minutes to juice up from 30% to 80%; AC charging at 6.6kW takes roughly 10.5 hours for a full 0-100% charge. It also comes standard with a 3.3kW V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) reverse power supply.

Chassis & Handling

Underneath, the JAECOO J6 is engineered with an all-aluminium body structure and chassis. Suspension duties are handled by a front MacPherson independent suspension and a rear multi-link independent setup. Drive configurations are available in rear-motor rear-wheel drive and dual-motor all-wheel drive. Drivers can select from nine drive modes—spanning Eco, Sport, Sand, Mud, and Rough terrains. The steering calibration is light and effortless for daily drives. Boot capacity starts at 450 litres and expands up to 1238 litres with the rear seats folded.

Cabin & Features

The cockpit revolves around a 15.6-inch central touchscreen and a 9.2-inch full digital instrument cluster. The infotainment system is driven by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip, offering seamless wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. On the audio front, the AWD variant features a 12-speaker Infinity sound system, while select markets offer an 8-speaker Pioneer setup on entry-level grades.

Comfort amenities include a 6-way power-adjustable driver's seat and a 4-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, both equipped with ventilation and massage functions. The rear seats also benefit from seat ventilation. Other equipment includes a 50W wireless smartphone charger, panoramic sunroof, 64-colour ambient lighting, and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror.

Safety & Driver Assistance

Safety-wise, the JAECOO J6 comes standard with 8 airbags across the board. Active safety is comprehensive thanks to a full ADAS suite. Key driver assistance features include: Adaptive Cruise Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Detection, Forward Collision Warning, Rear Collision Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Door Open Warning. In addition, Vehicle Dynamics Control and Emergency Brake Assist are fitted as standard.

Market Performance & Verdict

Since its progressive debut across overseas markets in 2024, the JAECOO J6 has posted strong sales numbers. In May 2026, global monthly deliveries hit 26,335 units, making it the best-selling model under the JAECOO banner. In Indonesia, the brand notched 11,284 unit sales within just five months of launch as of May 2026. In Singapore, the JAECOO J6 is offered under Category A COE (99kW RWD variant) and Category B COE (205kW AWD variant), priced at RM169,888 and RM201,888 (inclusive of COE) respectively. In Thailand, booking prices for the RWD and AWD versions are set at RM1,099,000 and RM1,249,000 respectively.

Motoring media praise the JAECOO J6 for its "plush cabin, commendable ride refinement, and punchy performance", hailing it as an appealing EV that "offers a standout lifestyle proposition at a relatively accessible price point". Its rugged boxy styling and outdoor-ready packaging strongly appeal to active lifestyle buyers. On the flip side, wind noise is somewhat noticeable at highway cruising speeds due to its upright profile, and the comfort-oriented rear suspension exhibits noticeable body roll during enthusiastic cornering. Overall, as a pivotal global product for Chery, the JAECOO J6 carved out a distinctive niche in the compact EV SUV segment with its rugged boxy look, all-aluminium chassis, dual-motor AWD, and generous tech suite.
